The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-5-1, 1-3-1 ACCAC) lost 4-1 to Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC soccer match at the SMCC Soccer Field on Saturday, Sept. 23. Freshman Atxel Medrano scored for SMCC in the first half, but the Gila Monsters struck for four goals in the second half to claim the conference victory. 

From his left midfielder position, Medrano took a pass from Jilverto Velaszquez and cut into the middle of the pitch. He then fired a low shot across his body and back into the left-side netting for his second goal of the campaign. The assist was Velaszquez's first of the season. 

Freshman Brandon Soto had the Cougars' other shot in the contest. Eastern Arizona finished with 30 shots in the contest, putting 11 on goal. Sophomore Max Melendez made a season-high seven saves over 90 minutes for SMCC.
