SMCC Softball Sweeps Road Doubleheader at PVCC

The South Mountain Community College softball team (2-2, 2-0 ACCAC) swept an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader at Paradise Valley Community College on Mar. 1, winning 7-1 and 10-1 (5). In the first game, Jackie Traughber tossed a two-hit complete game with six strikeouts and added two hits and two RBIs at the plate. In the second game, Christian Smith allowed one run and had six strikeouts in five innings as the Cougar offense rolled to a 10-1, five-inning victory. 

Game One

The Cougar offense struck for seven runs and 14 hits to back up Traughber in the circle and give SMCC its first win of the season. The Cougars scored two runs in the second, third and sixth, and added another run in the fourth. 

Four Cougars finished with multiple hits: Alexa KeyMia StankiewiczJaudrey Ah Quin and Traughber. Stankiewicz blasted a home run off the scoreboard, added a double, had two RBIs and two stolen bases. Key led the team with three hits and added two runs and two stolen bases. 

Ah Quin recorded her first triple of the year and scored two runs. Taylor Mount hit a double, had an RBI and scored a run, and Tara Lorona and Tatumn Ellis each had a hit and RBI. 

Traughber (1-0) was dominant in the circle, working around two hits, two walks and two hit batters. She fanned six and allowed one earned run to record her first win of the season. 

Game Two

The Cougar offense continued to roll and collected 11 hits, including six for extra bases, in a 10-1, five-inning win. SMCC scored four times in the first and fourth and once in the third and fifth to post the run-rule victory.

Traughber, Lorona and Mount all had two hits in the win. Traughber had a double, stolen base, run and RBI, while Lorona had three RBIs and a double. Mount scored two runs, had two RBIs, stole a base and hit her first home run of the season. Ah Quin also homered in the victory, and Ellis and Tori Van Arsdale produced triples. 

The team recorded seven stolen bases, and Stankiewicz had two for the second-straight game. 

In the circle, Smith (1-2) fanned six Pumas and worked around five hits and a walk in five innings of work.
