SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Nationally Ranked Pima CC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-3-1, 1-3-1 ACCAC) fell 11-2 to nationally ranked Pima CC in an ACCAC contest in Tucson on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Cougars struck first in the contest as freshman Oscar Jimenez scored unassisted in the second minute. In the second half, freshman Mauricio Guerrero scored in the 61st minute off an assist from freshman Mauricio Fuentes

Jimenez finished with three shots in the contest and became the fourth different Cougar to register a goal this season. Guerrero also recorded his first goal of the year to become SMCC's fifth different goal scorer in 2024, and Fuentes recorded his first assist of the year. Freshman Kevin Soto had SMCC's sixth shot of the match. 

Pima scored six goals in the first half against freshman goalkeeper Manuel Lopez, who finished with six saves. Freshman Oswaldo Rodriguez saw his first action of the year in the second half and made six stops while allowing five goals. 

Sophomore Danny Youbengue picked up a yellow card for SMCC. The teams combined for 29 fouls, with Pima CC holding a 17-12 edge. The Aztecs had two players go into the book with cautions.
