SMCC Men's Soccer Announces Four-Year Transfers
PHOENIX ---
The South Mountain Community College men's soccer program and head coach Pedro Mendoza announced the Cougars' four-year transfers from the 2023 squad. Conlan McCoy (Roberts Wesleyan University), Jonathan Osuna (Weyland Baptist University), Marco Amador (Park University), Ramses Rodriguez (Park University), and Eric Calixto (Park University) were all instrumental in helping SMCC restart its men's soccer program as they continue their soccer careers.
McCoy will join the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks, an NCAA Division II program in Rochester, N.Y. He is a 5-10 midfielder from San Tan Valley, Ariz., who prepped at Red Mountain High School.
In 2023, McCoy received Honorable Mention All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I Division II honors after starting all 13 matches. He finished the year with seven shots and started all 23 games in which he appeared over his SMCC career.
In 2022, McCoy started 10 matches and finished with two assists, six shots and three shots on goal. He recorded an assist at PVCC on Sept. 20 and posted another at Scottsdale CC on Oct. 1.
Amador will join the Park University Buccaneers, an NAIA program in Gilbert, Ariz. He is a 5-8 midfielder from Nogales, Ariz., who prepped at Nogales High School.
Amador tallied seven goals, two assists, and 16 points in 22 matches over his SMCC career. He earned 2022 Second Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I Division II honors after recording five goals and 10 points. He scored two goals in the season opener at PVCC, added road goals at Arizona Western and PVCC, and produced the game-winning goal in double-overtime in a 1-0 victory over Gateway CC.
In 2023, Amador started 12 matches and finished with two goals, two assists and six points. He scored two goals at Glendale CC and recorded assists against Paradise Valley CC and Mesa CC.
Rodriguez will also head to the Park University Buccaneers. Rodriguez is a 5-9 defender from Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.
He started 10 matches and had two shots and one on goal in the 2023 season. He joined SMCC after spending a year at Chaffey College (CA), where he appeared in nine matches and made six starts. He had one shot and a yellow card and helped the team win its conference championship.
Calixto will join Amador and Rodriguez on the Park University Buccaneers. Calixto is a 5-8 defender from Phoenix, Ariz., who prepped at South Mountain High School.
Calixto spent two seasons with the Cougars. In 2023, Calixto appeared in 12 matches and made three starts; in 2022, he appeared in six contests.
Osuna is headed to the Weyland Baptist University Pioneers, an NAIA program in Plainview, Texas. Osuna is a 5-7 midfielder from Mesa, Ariz.
Osuna spent two seasons at SMCC and appeared in 17 matches while making five starts.
