The South Mountain Community College women's soccer team (0-4-0, 0-1-0 ACCAC) lost 6-0 to Glendale CC on Aug. 29 and 4-1 to Gateway CC on Sept. 1 in a pair of matches. In the ACCAC opener against the Geckos, sophomore Lucy Millan scored in the 74th minute off an assist from Litzy Valenzuela.
SMCC finished with six shots and put three on goal in the loss to the Gauchos. Sophomore Alicia Nicholson, freshman Keyla Garcia and Valenzuela all had shots on goal for the Cougars.
In net, Millan made six saves over 90 minutes. SMCC committed nine fouls and had a corner kick in defeat.
Three days later, the Cougars and Geckos battled in their conference openers. After a scoreless first half, Gateway CC scored four goals over 22 minutes to take a 4-0 lead. Millan pulled one back in the 74th minute for the Cougars to finish the scoring.
SMCC finished with 13 shots and four corner kicks in the loss and committed eight fouls.
