SMCC Beach Volleyball Squares off with Wayne State, Ottawa (AZ) and Colorado-Mesa

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team battled with NCAA Division II Wayne State (NE) and Colorado-Mesa and NAIA Ottawa University (AZ) in three matches over spring break at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz. 

In their second match against Wayne State, freshmen Nichole Gary and Rylee Pitts nearly pulled off a three-set victory. After falling 21-13 in set one, they rallied for a 21-18 win in set two before falling 15-9 in set three. 

Against Ottawa University (AZ), Gary and Pitts posted a straight-set win as the No.3 pairs (21-19, 21-12), and freshmen Emee Fellens and Shandi Allison won 21-19 and 21-11 on the No. 6 court.  

Finally, against the defending NCAA Division II national champion Colorado-Mesa, the Cougars put up a valiant fight but fell in straight sets in all five contests.
