Van Winkle, Allison Post First Win for SMCC Beach Volleyball

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team lost 5-0 and 4-1 to Ottawa University (AZ) in a pair of matches at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz., on Feb. 7. Freshmen Shandi Allison and Hannah Van Winkle recorded the Cougars' first dual victory of the season with a three-set victory as the No. 5 pairs in the second contest against the Spirit. 

Allison and Van Winkle rallied from a first-set loss to win 15-21, 21-9 and 15-9 as the No. 5 pairs. Kristine Garcia and Nichole Gary posted a 21-8, 21-8 victory as the No. 6 pairs in an exhibition contest.  

Alexa Wasil and Emee Fellens played a decisive third set as the No. 4 pairs in the second match before falling 16-21, 21-16 and 15-10.
