SMCC Beach Volleyball Downs GCU Club Team 4-1

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team defeated the GCU Club Team 4-1 in a match on Feb. 14 at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz. The Cougars scored victories in the top four contests en route to their first team win.
Freshman Amaya Evans and sophomore Kristine Garcia recorded their first win as No. 1 pairs with a three-set win (21-14, 18-21, 15-11). The SMCC No. 2 pairs team of sophomore Emily Wilson and freshman Daisy Motes also registered their first win of the year with a straight-set 25-15, 25-17 victory.
The Cougars' third pair, freshman Rylee Pitts and freshman Nichole Gary won in straight sets with identical 21-14, 21-14 scores, and the Cougars' No. 4 pair of Alexa Wasil and Emee Fellens won 21-9 and 21-7 in straight sets.
SMCC's No. 5 pairs of freshmen Hannah Van Winkle and Shandi Allison suffered a tough three-set loss: 12-21, 21-13 and 15-13. Wilson and Fellens teamed up in an exhibition contest for a 21-10, 21-10 victory.
