SMCC Sweeps Matches with Trinidad State

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team defeated Trinidad State (CO) 4-1 and 5-0 in a pair of matches at Kiwanis Park on Tempe, Ariz., on Mar. 23. 

Head coach Pat Mooney switched up the Cougars' top two pairs in the contests with the Trojans and it paid off. Freshman Amaya Evans and sophomore Emily Wilson won as the No. 1 pairs in the first match (21-15, 21-12), while Wilson and Kristine Garcia won on the No.1 court in the second contest (21-19, 16-21, 15-13). 

On the No. 2 court, Garcia teamed with freshmen Daisy Motes to win in the first match (21-11, 21-14) while Motes and Evans posted a 21-14, 21-14 in the second contest. 

Freshmen Nichole Gary and Rylee Pitts won both their matches as the No. 3 pairs to improve to a team-best 10-7 on the season. Freshmen Alexa Wasil and Hannah Van Winkle won on the fourth court in the second match (21-14, 21-19), while Emee Fellens and Shandi Allison won twice on the No. 5 court.
