SMCC Beach Volleyball Opens 2023 Season

The South Mountain Community College women's beach volleyball team lost 5-0 to Park-Gilbert in its 2023 season opener on Feb. 2 at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz. The Cougars' No. 3 pairs of Nichole Gary and Rylee Pitts and the No. 4 pairs of Alexa Wasil and Emee Fellens played in a third and decisive set before eventually falling to the Buccaneers.
Gary and Pitts debuted for SMCC with a 16-21, 21-19 and 16-14 loss as the No. 3 pairs, and Fellens and Wasil lost 17-21, 21-12 and 15-9 as the No. 4 pairs.
SMCC's No. 1 pairs of Amaya Evans and Kristine Garcia fell in straight sets (21-19, 21-17), as did the Cougars' No. 2 pair Daisy Motes and Emily Wilson (21-12, 21-11).
Finally, the No. 5 pairs of Hannah Van Winkle and Shandi Allison lost 21-14 and 21-11.
