Cougar Women's Hoops Falls at Arizona Western

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 77-49 at Arizona Western in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Dec 10. Freshman Nyese Jones led SMCC with 16 points, and Andrea Willeto added 13, but the Matadors led from start to finish in the victory. 

Arizona Western jumped out to an 18-7 lead after 10 minutes and took a 39-23 lead into halftime. The Cougars won the third quarter 20-19 before Arizona Western posted a 19-6 frame in the fourth quarter to complete the win. 

SMCC shot 32 percent (16-of-50) from the field and 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the free throw line. The Cougars grabbed 30 rebounds, dished out eight assists and had 10 steals. 

Jones finished 5-of-11 from the field and knocked down five free throws. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 32 minutes. Willeto connected on three 3-pointers and had four free throws to go with six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Sophomore Genesis Adams led SMCC with 10 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass. She added six points and an assist in 31 minutes. Freshman Jolie King also had six points and added three steals, a rebound and an assist.
