SMCC Women's Basketball Posts ACCAC Win at Phoenix College

Sophomores Genesis Adams (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Andrea Willeto (11 points, 11 rebounds) posted double-doubles to help lead the South Mountain Community College women's basketball team to a 61-53 victory at Phoenix College on Jan. 11. Sophomore Myla Lee added 14 points and SMCC overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat the Bears and post their second conference win of the season. 

Trailing 28-22 after 20 minutes, SMCC won the third quarter 23-12 and then posted a 16-12 victory in the fourth to secure the comeback. SMCC shot 36 percent (18-of-50) from the field and knocked down 23-of-33 free throw attempts (69.7 percent). The Cougars had 33 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards, nine steals and two blocked shots. 

Adams was 4-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. She grabbed seven offensive rebounds and had a block and an assist. The double-double was her fifth of the season, and she is averaging 14.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in 15 games this season. 

Willeto was 5-of-9 from the field and had seven defensive rebounds, an assist and a block. The double-double was her second of the season, and she is averaging 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 16 games this year. 

Lee was 3-of-8 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win and is averaging 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 14 games this season. 

Sophomore Star Anderson scored eight points and added three steals. Freshman Hailey Connor tied a season high with nine points and four steals. She added three rebounds, two free throws and a 3-pointer.
