Pima CC Defeats South Mountain CC Women's Basketball

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 71-60 to Pima CC in an ACCAC home game at the SMCC Gym on Feb. 8, Sophomore Myla Lee led the Cougars with 22 points, one off her career high, and sophomore Genesis Adams added 13, but the Aztecs used an early scoring run in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. 

SMCC trailed 19-9 after 10 minutes of action but played to a 21-21 second quarter against the Aztecs. In the third quarter, the Cougars outscored Pima CC 17-12 and cut the lead to 52-47. However, Pima CC scored the first seven points of the fourth to reestablish a double-digit lead and set them up for the win. 

SMCC shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field and totaled 39 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals and two blocks. 

Lee was 8-of-17 from the field and made three 3-pointers. She added five rebounds and five assists. Adams went 6-of-10 from the floor with six rebounds and a season-high four assists. 

Sophomore Andrea Willeto returned to action and finished with nine points, six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Nyakuer Aguek came off the bench to score a season-high seven points, and freshman Daziane Stevenson added five points, five rebounds and two steals.
