Phoenix College Defeats SMCC Women's Basketball

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 53-50 to Phoenix College in an ACCAC home game at the SMCC Gym on Feb. 15. The Cougars held a 31-18 lead at halftime, but the Bears rallied for a 35-19 second half victory to claim the conference victory. Sophomore Genesis Adams led SMCC with 20 points, sophomore Myla Lee added 13 and sophomore Andrea Willeto had a team-high 10 rebounds. 

The Cougars shot 18-of-53 (34 percent) from the field and finished with 42 rebounds, 11 assists, and eight steals. 

Adams finished 5-of-10 from the floor and 10-of-14 from the free throw line. She grabbed six rebounds and added three steals, an assist and a block. Lee made five field goals and added four rebounds and two assists. 

Willeto led SMCC with 10 rebounds, nine of which came on the defensive glass. She added five points, three assists and a steal. Freshman Daziane Stevenson totaled six rebounds, four of which were offensive, two points and two assists.

Freshman Carmen Kittrell had two points, and four rebounds, and freshman Hailey Connor had two points, three rebounds and two assists.
