SMCC Men's Basketball Falls to Air Force Prep

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (7-14) lost 71-61 to Air Force Prep in a non-conference contest at the SMCC Gym on Jan. 25. Sophomore guard Jacob Taylor led the Cougars with 17 points and nine rebounds, freshman Drew Hoxie scored 13 off the bench, and sophomore Cash Callaway added 11. Still, the Huskies pulled away in the second half to secure the victory. 

SMCC trailed 27-25 at halftime and fell 44-36 in the second half. The Cougars shot 33.8 percent (24 of 71) from the field, totaling 42 rebounds, 11 assists, four steals, and four blocks in defeat. 

Taylor was 7 of 13 from the field, and three of his nine boards came on the offensive glass. He added two 3-pointers and one steal in 31 minutes. Taylor is averaging 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in 21 contests this season. He has scored in double-figures 11 times this season. 

Hoxie came off the bench and was 5 of 12 from the floor in 29 minutes. He added five rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block to his 13 points. This season, Hoxie is averaging 7.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 18 games. 

Callaway added five rebounds and one assist to his 11 points in 34 minutes. He is averaging 19.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in 21 games this year. 

Sophomore Nathan Robinson finished with four points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in 28 minutes, and sophomore Julius Williams had four points, six rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 24 minutes.
