The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (5-11, 0-6 ACCAC) lost 61-33 to Chandler-Gilbert CC in an ACCAC home game on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the SMCC Gym. Freshman Destiny Dixon led SMCC with 12 points, and freshman DeeDee Medlock grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
SMCC totaled 53 rebounds, six assists, 11 steals, and seven blocked shots against the Coyotes. CGCC led 23-10 at halftime and won the second half 38-23.
Dixon was 5 of 13 from the field and made one 3-pointer. She added five rebounds, three steals, and one assist in 32 minutes. Ten of Medlock's 12 offensive rebounds came on the defensive glass and added three points, four steals, and two assists in 28 minutes.
Sophomore Rahimeh Salaam recorded a season-high five blocked shots and led SMCC with nine rebounds. Freshman Sadie Gardner had four points and six rebounds, and sophomore Valery Velazquez posted four points, three boards, one assist, one steal, and one block.
Sophomore Nei'Shae Clegg had seven rebounds and two points, and sophomore Mualyia Green had three points and five rebounds.
