SMCC Women's Basketball Falls to Pima CC, Phoenix College, and Scottsdale CC

The South Mountain Community College (5-22, 0-16 ACCAC) lost three road ACCAC games over the past week, falling 87-53 at Phoenix College on Feb. 12, 100-55 at Pima CC on Feb. 15, and 89-49 at Scottsdale CC on Feb. 22. 

Phoenix College Recap

Freshman DeeDee Medlock led SMCC with 14 points in 31 minutes in the 87-53 loss on Feb. 12. She added seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 31 minutes for the Cougars. 

Sophomore Valery Velazquez came off the bench to post 12 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes. Sophomore Mualyia Green had nine points and five rebounds in 31 reserve minutes, and freshman Destiny Dixon had nine points to go with two rebounds and a steal. 

Sophomore Leslie Aguirre had six points, six rebounds, and three steals in 33 minutes. 

Pima CC Recap

Freshman Destiny Dixon and Green scored 13 points apiece to lead SMCC in a 100-55 loss at Pima CC on Feb. 15. Dixon was 5 of 12 from the field with four rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 29 minutes, while Green came off the bench to add four rebounds to her point total. 

Freshman Sadie Gardner scored 11 points in 31 minutes, adding two rebounds, three assists, and a block. Sophomore Rahimeh Salaam had seven points, two rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and one assist in 28 minutes. 

Velazquez posted seven points, two rebounds, and two assists in 31 minutes off the bench. 

Scottsdale CC Recap

Gardner and Green finished with 11 points, and Salaam added 10 in an 89-49 loss at Scottsdale CC on Feb. 22. 

Garnder knocked down three 3-pointers in 28 minutes and added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Green posted five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 29 minutes off the bench in addition to her 11 points. 

Salaam grabbed nine rebounds and added one assist, two steals, and two blocks to her 10 points in 31 minutes.

Velazquez had six points and an assist, and Aguirre added five assists, four steals, three points and two rebounds.
