SMCC Men's Hoops Falls to Chandler-Gilbert CC, Glendale CC

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (9-16, 4-9 ACCAC) lost 82-59 at Chandler-Gilbert on Feb. 5 and 81-50 to Glendale CC in a pair of ACCAC games. Sophomore Cash Callaway scored 15 points and sophomore Julius Williams added 14 in the loss to the Coyotes. Three days later, Callaway scored 11 and sophomore Nathan Robinson posted 10 off the bench in the loss to the Gauchos.

The Cougars trailed 34-25 at halftime and fell 48-34 in the second half. They shot 39.6 percent (21 of 53) from the field and added 22 rebounds, seven assists, five steals, and four blocks in defeat. 

Callaway was 5 of 13 from the floor and connected on three 3-pointers in 29 minutes. He added two rebounds and an assist. Williams shhot 6 of 10 in 33 minutes and added six rebounds, one assist, and two steals. 

Freshman Drew Hoxie had nine points, two rebounds, and two blocks, while Robinson scored seven points and added three rebounds and two steals off the bench.

SMCC trailed 47-19 at halftime and fell 34-31 in the second half to the Gauchos. The Cougars shot 23.7 percent (14 of 59) and added 39 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks in defeat. 

Callaway had 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist in 30 minutes. Robinson came off the bench to finish with 10 points, four rebounds, and a block in 17 minutes. Sophomore Jacob Taylor, Williams, Hoxie, and freshman David Hoxie all had six points.
