
SMCC Men's Basketball Falls to Pima CC in Region I Division II Semifinal

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (12-19) lost 80-55 to Pima CC in an NJCAA Region I Division II Tournament Semifinal in Tucson on Wednesday, Mar. 5. Freshman forward Drew Hoxie led the Cougars with 14 points and eight rebounds and sophomore guard Cash Callaway finished with 13 as the Cougars' 2024-25 season came to an end.
SMCC trailed 36-28 at halftime and Pima CC extended its final advantage with a 44-27 second half. The Cougars shot 41.1 percent (23 of 56) from the field and 43.8 percent (7 of 16) from 3-point range and added 32 rebounds, 15 assists, five blocks, and four steals in defeat.
Hoxie was 6 of 7 from the field with a 3-pointer in 35 minutes. He also had a team-high eight rebounds, two of the offensive variety, and added a steal. The scoring performance was his 12th in double-figures this year, and he scored a season-high 17 points in a victory at Scottsdale CC on Jan. 29. He averaged 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 28 games in his freshman season.
Callaway finished 5 of 10 from the floor in 36 minutes with two 3-pointers. He added five rebounds and five assists and averaged 18.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 31 contests. He earned First Team All-ACCAC Division II honors for his play this year.
Sophomore guard Jacob Taylor totaled nine points, four rebounds, and two blocks in 30 minutes. He finished his sophomore year averaging 11.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 31 games.
Freshman guard McKay Anderson came off the bench to post six points and a team-high six assists in 21 minutes. He averaged 5.4 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 30 games.
Sophomore Julius Williams posted four points, three assists, and one rebound in 33 minutes. He averaged 8.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 26 games.
Sophomore Jayven Driscoll finished with four points, two rebounds, and one block in 20 minutes. He averaged 2.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 31 games.
Sophomore Nathan Robinson recorded five points, five rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and one assist in 20 minutes off the bench. He averaged 6.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in 31 games.
